Friday Morning, December 21, 1827.

In our last, we copied from the Halifax papers, a report that Lord Dalhousie was to be recalled, and the Duke of Gordon appointed to the Governor General-ship.  The first part of the report is no doubt true, but we can never suppose that the Duke of Gordon will be placed in a situation for which his former habits so ill adapt him.  The Duke, we believe, has never been accustomed to any kind of public business; and he is now rather old to commence a new line of life.  The Government of Lower Canada is one of immense consequence at present.  It is the head of our little confederacy, and situated near to a great, and growing, and overreaching Republic.  If fit persons were scarce, the Duke might be advanced to it; but we are much inclined to fear that Nova Scotia will suffer by the arrangement.  Few persons, we believe, can be found, so well qualified for the arduous situaiton, or so likely to draw the attention and confidence of His Majesty; as his Excellency Sir James Kempt.

George Ramsy, 9th Earl of Dalhousie, founded Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS.  Earltown, and East and West Dalhousie were also named for him.
