Born in Pictou, Nova Scotia in 1854.

Hughena went to work in Boston as a ladies maid.

Hughenas was the youngest of nine children to parents Murdoch Ross and Isabella McKenzie of Linacy, Pictou County, Nova Scotia.

She died in Medfield, Boston in 1880. Maude was just twelve years old.
