“Dear Sir

            It is a long time since I last wrote you but [notwithsler?] the length of time that has [intervened?] I am now something at a loss for matter to form a letter out of when I consider that you are a man that will not be entertained with writings that do not contain some useful information no doubt you have heard of the death of my Mother about this time three years past the rest of us are all enjoying good health. William Bonvie has remove to Cape Breton about fourteen months ago he has not been here since but I have received several letters from him he says he has a prospect of doing well his Brother Samuel’s widow and family has removed there also, Our family continue all with us excepting John he was a year and a half in a printing office but on a count of a weakness in one of his legs he was obliged to leave it. Since leaving the printing he has taught a school one year at the lower Settlement West River he has now been three months going to school himself he has a great [dense?] to allain a classical education and where there is a will there is a way. There has been tolerable fair crops here this year except oats which are very deficient on account of rust, as to the state of trade and other business which may affect our private finances I need not [comete?] as they must be much the same with you as with us. Within twelve months past we have been [blessed?] with the departure of four clergyman of the Kirk of Scotland to the land of their fathers may they do much good where they have gone for it dose not appear that they have done any thing while here but break discord and [commity?] where [pear?

 Formerly reigned. Since they have left us there has been some movement among parts of their flocks towards a union with the Free Church there would be a much greater movement that way if it ever not for fear of losing heir political supremacy but as a short line will convince them that is already lost it is probable that by degrees the generality of them will [fallin?] in be superiority of the Free Church you may say that and pass a harsh judgement on them but I believe it to be connect.”
