Description
Mrs. C. Calvin MacKay
The death occurred in Sutherland Memorial Hospital, Pictou, after a brief illness, of Mrs. G. Calvin MacKay, on Tuesday evening, April 3. She was in her 89th year, and would have reached her 89th birthday next month.
Mrs. MacKay, who hard resided for the past 14 months with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Sutherland, Patterson Street, suffered a broken hip in a fall at home last Friday, but pneumonia developed after she was taken to the hospital, and she passed peacefully away. Devoted to her church, and her home, she had many friends, who will remember her for her kindly manner and Christian character.
She was the former Margaret Nina Wilson, daughter of the late William and Martha (Langille) Wilson of Louisville, Pictou County, and had resided for more than 35 years in Pictou. She was a member of Pictou United Church and until recently took a very active part in the women's organizations of the church and the W.C.T.U., but her particular interest was in the Sunday School, where for many years she taught a class of boys.
Besides her husband, one daughter survives her, Marguerite. Mrs. H. A. Sutherland, and one brother, J. W. Wilson, of Somerville, Mass., who came to Pictou last summer with his wife to see her. She was predeceased by one son, Wilson, who died in 1931.
The remains are resting at the MacLaren Funeral Home, Faulkland Street, and the funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday from Pictou United Church with Rev. Russell A. MacLeod officiating. Interment will be made at Haliburton cemetery.
