William Ira Elliott was born 18 November 1893 to William Harvey Elliott and Catherine Jane Cameron Elliott. He had six siblings. They were Ethel, Annie Laura, James Robert, Mary Catherine, Sarah Christina and Erwin Wall.

William Ira Elliott served as part of the 1st Canadian Tank Battalion in WW1.

Ira married Gertrude Winnifred "Gertie" Hiltz, the daughter of Edgar and Eva Berry Hiltz.
