Description
Simon Roderick Fraser was the son of James Fraser and Nancy Ann (McRae) Fraser of Toney River. Jessie Ann (MacKenzie) Fraser was the daughter of Donald and Christena (MacDonald) MacKenzie of Toney River. James Fraser was born in Scotland. His parentage is unknown. Nancy Ann (McRae) was the daugther of Alexander and Isabella (Fraser) McRae and was born at Watervale. The McRae family originally settled at Watervale (West River) but moved to Toney River circa 1855. Alexander McRae and his sons operated the gristmill and the sawmill on the Toney River circa 1855 to 1881 and give the area its name, Toney Mills, today. The MacKenzie farm at Toney Mills is still owned and occupied by descendants of Donald and Christena MacKenzie.
